It should be similar construction to the door panels. The fasteners are sandwiched between the door card board and the outer upholstery layer. If you brought those plastic kick panels, I would imagine that you need to drill holes in it for the clips and the cover the outside with vinyl, leather, etc to match the door panel material.

It's also the clips and panel that holds the windlace flap in place. Otherwise you could glue the flap to the body and then use something like very flat velcro to install the panels.

Is this the same as the wind lace used on the door? I can’t tell if it has just been compressed over time from the door. Or if it is different all together.
It’s the bottom of the plate on the door threshold.

This was used on the convertibles only as they didn't have the full perimeter weatherstripping. As such only the convertible sills have a channel along the bottom for it.
Here is an original one on some sills I picked up. It looks exactly like the fender welting I just used, with perhaps some of the tab cut off.

On mine the weather strip was included in the full Kanter weather strip package for convertibles. I had to bend the tab along the bottom back to strip out the old one and give it a good scrape out and cleaning to prep it to allow the insertion and re-crimping of the tab to hold the new strips beaded edge.

Interesting. For sure the original ones I have on these are not rubber. I am sure rubber is a longer lasting material. Do you have a picture of it before you installed? Just curious what Steele Rubber piece they supplied for that application.
