Took my '46 Packard to the shop for the repairs. Considered replacing the door but decided to repair instead. The guy who did the work had to cut the split area out because the metal was stretched way too much to repair. He cut out the bad area and welded in new material.

The paint work was completed today. I'll go take a look tomorrow. He was happy with the results.

It looks great in the photos and that really was the way to go. Replacing the door sounds like it would be easier but in the end you would have many more hours in getting it on and aligned and the jambs all cleaned, prepped and painted.

It looks good in the pictures! With 35 years experience the guy should have the necessary skills. Let us know how it looks after you pick it up!

My car has similar damage on both passenger doors and the rocker, which it had when I got it, so not sure what the story is. The dent is longer on mine, but not an open wound like your car. There was also damaged trim, which I suspect was part of the same incident. These door repairs are my current project, trim repair was last week. Little by little!

Just need to finish the trim on rocker.
