I'd want to dip and saturate any absorbent material in some kind of waterproof and soft-setting goop. Otherwise, it is likely to eventually become wet, perhaps with muddy or salty water, and become a rust bomb. There may be modern mastic or silicon based caulking materials that could be used. A good high volume body shop might be able to advise, or a good parts store that carries bodywork materials could probably offer advice.

I would consider something like a strip of rubber that is attached with silicone sealant / RTV. Anything else (besides literal tar cloth) I can't picture not holding water excessively, as TxGoat mentioned.

Right rear quarter rust repair is complete, inside & out. moving on to the left. Ended up ordering some universal trunk seal from Metro molded rubber, could not find anything suitable locally

Looks really nice. Did you redo the area that the fender skirts sit in? If so, did you check the fit of the skirts afterwards?

I ask because the previous owner of my Panama did body work in the area and didn't check the fit. I can't use fender skirts now, unfortunately.

Yes I took my fender skirts and shaped a piece to fit around them. then I fit it to the rear quarter wheel well. fits quite nice I think, now if I could only buy the correct size fender welting in Canada..........

Left rear quarter panel repairs are finally complete. I had to replace the inner rocker as well as the outer. then reconstruct the inner fender well pcs. now to take out the glass, put on a rotisserie and clean up the bottom of the body & the frame. Laying on the cold concrete floor is done for, getting too old for that.

It’s been a long & painful learning curve. Not perfect but it will have less filler than what it originally had. I have to give credit to Fitzees Fabrications you tube videos. Watching & listening to this fellow Canadian gave me the confidence to give it a whirl. Painting is another story. I will leave that to folks with the skills & the paint booth.
Finally found someone to do my upholstery, so that is in the cue now. Just waiting onmore material from SMS that I was shorted.
