engine vaccum is ok, and the booster seems to be working, but my proportioning valve is shot. even with a straight connection to the intake vac port, the wipers are weak. my 56 has 85,000 miles, so maybe the wiper motor is just worn out.

The Uncommon Engr one looks like the PowerGEN but still 12v.http://www.powermastermotorsports.com/powergen.html

Think what cortcomp was looking for is a 6v alternator if not mistaken.

Seems no matter what the facts,regarding 6 verses 12 volts, are there is much to be learned.

I'm with Turbopacman on this one. All my cars from now on will be converted to 84 volts. That should make dem lights shine.

Not sure about that. Seem to recall reading the hybrids are running in the neighborhood of 400v to their motors (hence the big orange caution wrapping around the cables). Probably the Volt and Tesla are too. Only a matter of time before the regular electrics in those cars bump way up. 110 or 220v radios and lights anyone?

A friend of mine works for Texas Instruments and he says they have been working 24 volt sensors for cars for awhile now.

I believe it. 24 and even 48 are already used in heavy equipment. Only a matter of a few years before cars too. As more have the battery paks and inverters so they have the extra capacity and maybe less space constraints, the efficiency and flexibility of the higher voltages will be hard to ignore--just as the shift to 12v was in the 50's.
