Except for the type of oil, the off site article says almost the same as this article Packard supplied which is on the last page of the counselor.
Don't know much about Marvel oil but think the guy is right that it is thin. I would not use brake fluid either -- not only because it can damage paint but also because it is hydroscopic. With all the air being pulled thru and being near the brake fluid I think moisture could be an issue in making it gummy as evidenced by the way the fluid gets when a small amount gets sucked into the power brake vacuum side.

Did the Packards of this era have 11" wiper blades? The Henney is the same as the passenger car.

Very subtle difference for sure. Since the spring uses over center travel to do two functions, the bend or hump in the link needs to be able to stay clear of the pedal shaft pivot point as the attachment point raises above center and pulls the link end upward. The boost happens when pushing the pedal down a small amount puts the link end past center where the spring helps pull the clutch pedal down. When it is released, once the link end passes over center the last inch or so of pedal travel the spring starts to pull back again only this time it is to help keep the pedal upright.

Yes and the adjustment procedure in the manual and Service Counselors is not all too clear!

My goal today was to get the gas tank installed but I didn’t quite make it as there is a misalignment on the vent tube. It is just the way it came out of the car so not sure what’s wrong as the filler pipe can go in only one way with very little, if any, wiggle room. The tank isn’t tightened in place and not quite up all the way on the left side either so if all the way up they would be even farther apart.

Before trying (and failing) to get the gas tank installed I cleaned out the non-removable filler tube with Ospho and the plan was to cap and tape the lower end but then I realized that I didn’t have enough Ospho to fill it. What I did instead was to spray it in and I think I managed to get all the surfaces covered. I also ran a piece of course steel wool through it and dried it as best I could by ramming a rag through it. I would have preferred to have sealed it too but not practical with it still in the car! It would have made a huge mess.

A little more progress in that the fuel tank is now installed! At first I was unable to get the right side to go all the way up into position so thought it was hitting the whistle but closer examination showed that it was not. Then it occurred to me that I had used a thicker anti-squeak pad on that side so using the transmission jack I was able to get it in the rest of the way. Unfortunately the welded t-bolt did not hold so will need to be re-welded. As soon as I let down the jack, it snapped off but it was already on its way from just snugging up the nut.
The hoses were a real pain as there was very little room to work so the back of my left wrist is going to have a groove in it for a long time where I had to squeeze my hand through a narrow space between the chassis and the body to get the hoses on! After the tank was all connected (minus one t-bolt) I attached the bolts on the filler support so that’s now connected too. Several years ago I bought a couple Atlas NORS vented filler caps which fit my 1954 Patrician and 1956 Clipper but they do not fit the Henney. Whether 1951 was different or Henney was different is something I am unsure of but I’ll have a look at the parts book to see if there is a clue. On this car the attaching ears on the filler pipe are on the inside while on my other Packards they are on the outside. On the gas filler cap, the 1951 through 1954 Henneys including the Junior models used the type that was used on earlier models and discontinued mid-23rd series. Having owned Henneys since the mid-'60s, that detail was new to me!
A new (NOS or NORS) AC cap is on the way.

The brake spring hook arrived today and is now installed. Also, there was supposed to be a shoulder bolt where the clutch arm punch rod attaches to the pivot but it had only a regular bolt so the proper shoulder bolt arrived too and is installed.
After realizing a few days ago how large the oil filter canister is, I pulled off its cover today and see that it uses a PF-210 cartridge, or at least that’s what is in it. I don’t know if this was specific to Henney or whether it was added later but if later, I have a stock unit to replace it with. Sure which I knew! None of my others had it but they were not to military spec either. I haven’t checked out how it’s plumbed to the engine but I did happen to notice that there is no battery cable to the starter solenoid so I’ll have to get one before I come back up next. I also added oil to the transmission and overdrive but they are not yet filled as I was having issues with the transfer pump and ended up with oil down my front from shirt to shoes! Finally, I see absolutely no place for the clutch arm return spring to anchor as it ends where the front suspension is. The nearest thing to the front of it is the steering gearbox but no brackets there that I can find and no extra holes where one might have been. Any ideas? (Sorry for the blurry photo. The camera refused to focus for some reason and that was the best of several tries!
