Do you mean Martini, the company that was involved mainly in single seaters, or Martini, the sponsor of many Porsches? Do you belong to the Atlas nostalgia forum? It is the best site on the internet for getting racing history, from the turn of the last century to today..

Just found what might be the original registration, but it is from 1959.

At that time, the owners, an Albert B and Emily M Reynolds, lived at 809 SW Alder, in downtown Portland, Oregon.

dr: Thanks for posting the picture of the registration card. It is always nice to find something original like that, when you have purchased a car.

The automobile manufacturer I was referring to was Martini,
which produced autos from 1897 to 1933. Captain H.H.P. Deasy
was the agent for Martini in England.

dr: Is your father still living? If he helped work on the Mercedes pre WWII grand prix cars, he certainly witnessed a lot of great history, and to see some of the greatest race drivers in history. The battle between Auto Union and Mercedes in grand prix racing during the 30's was truly epic.

Have you ever seen the program done by the History Channel titled Battle of the Silver Arrows? One of the best drivers on the Mercedes team at the time had to be Rudolf Caracciola
known as the Der Regenmeister. Winning two grand prix world championships for Mercedes.

My dad passed away in 1980, and my mom in 1999. My dad was Jewish and had to leave Germany in a hurry, so I have no period Auto Union or Mercedes memorabilia; not even personal photos. My mother was Italian, and they met in Switzerland, where I was born in 1947. Her cousin was Count Johnny Lurani, the Italian racer and automotive journalist. We moved to England in 1950, and to Chicago in 1954. I graduated Northwestern in 1968, and from 1968 until 1997, spent 75% oif my time in Europe and 25% of my time in the US. I taught at Cambridge University in England for over 20 years...

dr: Here is a story for you is called THE COUNT FROM ITALY THAT RACED AND DROVE ENGLISH MADE AUTOS.

In 1933 Kimber the owner of MG, entered three MG K3's in the Mille Miglia. The team placed two cars in first and second in their class, and won the Team Prize. Two of the drivers on that team were Captain George Eyston and Count Johnny Lurani. In 1934 Count Johnny Lurani entered the Mille Miglia driving a MG K3 again. The car he drove in the 1934 race was fitted with single seater body in 1937, which I have a picture of.

I hope that you like that piece of research work. To be frank what I have written you already knew, but I like talking history.

John,

The good doctor may have already known, but we didn't. Thanks for sharing that with everybody. These little snippets of history are always interesting.

Yes, Lurani was an Anglophile, and raced for MG in the Mille Miglia, but most of the cars he raced were Maseratis and Alfas. He also drove a Fiat 8V at LeMans.

Just finished going through my Patrician, and all it needs besides the cosmetics are fan belts, and there is a small leak in the heater core. :)
