Calif liked to use the engine serial number as the vehicle number back then for registration purposes.

Actually California didn’t like to use engine numbers but the CA DMV didn’t stop them being used either, especially where the vehicle tag was held on by screws.

In any event, I have a CAL engine in my shop which, if it’s the one I am thinking of, came from a 1951 300 that was used as a race car. I am not sure the original of the engine but its number (other than the CAL) matches 1951 300.

55 400 in PA. Anyone recognize this? Apparently it was in heated storage and getting some good work before the current owner bought it.

There is a 1953 327 5-main and slushbox for sale on FB. The Packard Automobile Parts Buy & Sell page is where it's listed. I cannot find a separate marketplace ad. It's missing the generator and starter but has a big old carb, which I guess would be the 985 Carter maybe. He says $200 OBO, and that a Wat Approved level of pricing. He's threatening it with a trip to the scrap man if it doesn't sell.

Clymer NY.

If you're not having fun, maybe it's your own damned fault.
