It is a 2k or 2 pack paint from the german Spies Hecker company. Widely available here in South africa, but a bit pricey although not as bad as ppg which seems to be an american brand?
It is probably a lacquer, all I know is that it is 2k where you have to add hardener and a thinner.
I was concerned about the color being too'Jaguar" or british racing green like on a mini, but it is allright now. I like it dark and will have to cope with the heat it will attract! Next up is painting the doors and then starting assembly.

Was on holiday, so not much work on the old lady. I did manage to attache the front fenders and is waiting for the re chromed bumpers. Also need to attend to the doors as they still need to get painted.

I attended the Franschoek Motor Museum here in the Western Cape province.

Some very nice cars in his collection of 300+. Also 3 Packards. All cars in great condition and worth millions. they are kept in climate controlled storage. The Rupert family, the owners, made their money from Tobacco and the Rembrandt group. If you think his car collection is great you should see his art museum!!!

The Mercedes is valued at R33 million and the Aston Martin convertible at R36 million!!!! Hope you enjoy the pics!

We are having a real cold winter this past 4 weeks so work on the 50 has been slow. The past weekend however I decided to install the correct fuel tank I got from a friend. It went of without a hitch and I am quite pleased with the results.

The sending units in both tanks were beyond repair - totally rusted out. Seeing as I have converted to 12v I decided to install a universal fuel sender and gauge. I did not do any modifications to the tank that cannot be changed back, so even though the gauge and unit is not Packard, someone can still revert back to the dash gauge and original fuel sender if they have the money off course!

Calibrating the new sender was difficult, but it seems to be now working beautifully. The tank was bone dry and I put in 30 litres of petrol (lead replacement LRP, 93 octane). The gauge now shows between half and quarter full. According to my calculations this tank can hold 80 litres of petrol? Is this approximately correct?
The car runs great and the bad fuel smell from the old tank is gone.

The after market gauges you see in the photo still need to be modified so that one can hide them when showing the car and only see them when driving. All of them work great.

The previous not standard tank hanged out from the back and really looked bad. See the before and after photos. This original tank was presure tested and painted and really helps with the look from behind.

I had my AC Delco distributor converted to pertronix electronic ignition. Also it was bored to accept a later day Ford points and ignition set that is very common in South Africa. I could not find the original Packard points here. So what this means is that I can now use the Pertronix, Ford, or Packard points. Whatever is handy. Must say the distributor is in great condition and the hard start issue I had before the Pertronix is totaly gone. One pump of the gas pedal and she starts right up and immediately idles smoothly. When the engine is at operating temp it revs up very smoothly and the engine sounds powerfull. I will recommend this 'upgrade' for anyone in my position regarding original parts.

You might be able to have your aftermarket guage panel on a hinge so you could flip it up and back when showing the car. Should be enough room under there. Crazy weather in north America as well. Seems like the Amazon with all the rain.

In JULY !!?? Pardon my ignorance but the only thing i know about Africa is what i see on TV over the last many decades. Tarzan, The Desert Fox and Lara Logan. I thot it was all Jungle land or desert land. No? It actualy drops below 70 degrees F there once in a while???

Johannesburg is in the southern hemisphere where it is now winter. The average high temp in July is 61 and the low is 39. So a cold winter could be really chilly down there.
