How much of the body work can you do yourself? DIY as much as you can then go for an estimate. Maybe you will be closer to your budget then.

Those guys could screw it up too..
Then you'd be out some rather large money.
A few years ago I read that some of the discount places
ala Maaco will paint your colors if you provide the paint.
Keep the faith!

Seeing what you've accomplished so far, I seriously doubt that will happen.

If there is doubt, you can always do what Kev and others have done. Sign up for a semester of evening adult school body shop class. Pick up another skill or two to complement those you already have.

Henry,

Have you looked at;http://www.tccd.edu/Courses_and_Programs/Program_Offerings/Automotive.html

A few years ago about 10 of us from PNT took this course for body repair. Check them out.

yeah i thought about that, but with my wife in school and having to be Mr. Mom every weekend and at nights....it probably wont happen anytime soon.

i'd like to though.

i'm just gonna have to watch a ton of yutube videos and read some blogs.

well looking at the car tonight, the driver's side rocker is pretty dang solid to the knock of my knuckles. the passenger's side def has to be replaced. the holes in the floor....weld in some small patches from some metal at Lowes and i'm good there.

got the radiator and heater core ready to go to the cleaner/rebuilders tomorrow. i'm a bit worried about that bleed over tube, i wonder if they can replace that.

the gas tank...well the only gas tank RENU place is in Houston and they rough estimated me 450 bucks. wow! they are going to be at the Good Guys show in October at TMS and he said i could bring it up there to show them. maybe the price will be less then. they said they could take it back with them and save me the shipping down to Houston.

tomorrow i will be taking the parts in, doing the brakes on my truck, shoping for a cut off tool for the passenger's rocker, and playing Mr. Mom while my wife studies. awesome.

I also decided they wanted too much for that 23 coupe, so i passed. the Packard bug sure does have a way of trying to get you into debt though huh. dammit you, responsibility!

Hank

Henry, replacement of the over flow tube for the radiator should be no problem for a good radiator shop. Just remove the old damaged one and solder a length of new copper tubing to the cap neck and top tank and route down the side next to the mounting bracket. Heck, you could do this part and save a few dollars. You probably want to do the radiator painting yourself. That is what I did on the re-cored radiator for the 47 Clipper.

yeah they are fixing the tube. i asked about it.

i'll probably paint it myself.

i'm looking around for bumper chroming/repairing now.

and for trim repair and polishing.

found a couple places near me.

i got out the driver's fender yesterday to practice my body work on. we'll see how that goes.

i bought a ton of tools from harbor freight this weekend to help with that.

i left the goods by the commandments...so they better do good. lol
