Rocker panels available for Clipper 5622?

Hi there Packard colleagues,

It's almost time for an overhaul of my 1956 Clipper Deluxe 5622.

So I'm collecting now all information to make an order for spare parts.

First chapter will be the outside metal works.

The rocker panels are rusting, so I thought to replace them.
I've taken a look at the exploded views and the spare part listings, so I've found this:

Rocker panel on the exploded view Body Exterior 5622 Plate # 7: 30.814

On the spare part list is mentioned:

Right inner: 424192
Left inner: 424193
Right outer: 447758
Left outer: 447759

When I check the site of Kanter or Max Merrit I do not find these refs.
The only ref I find is 30.8135 and part # 466386

My problem is now:

1) are these rocker panels LT and RT still available in repro?
2) Does somebody knows which refs I need?
3) Anyone an idea what these parts should cost?

Thanks !

Grtz. Xavier

When searching for rockers for my 51, I found that the only available ones are kind of generic and not shaped quite right. I called Kanter about theirs and they told me they only had the "generic" type as well. Mike dulinski is the man for v8 Packard parts. He may have good used ones.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Is Mr Dulinski here on the board? Or how can I contact him?

I saw these on eBay, what do you think about this? Buy or avoid ?

Thx

Those look like the generic type. By the time you pay for shipping overseas you would probably be better off taking a cross section of your existing rocker and have a metal shop make correct new ones. If the old ones are not that bad, they can be patched with new metal.

Here is a pic of the cross section of the rocker panel. There is a curve to the rocker as it goes to the sharp bend going under the car. The generic ones I have seen do not have this gentle curve, but are flat instead. Not a huge difference, but may be to some. If you go to my blog here toward the bottom of the page, you can see where I was trial fitting some generic rockers on my car.

Hello Cli55er,

Thanks for the link, the price looks fine for the parts, but I see they don't ship overseas... .

Hello 51Packard,

Thanks for the link to your blog, I've checked it out.

Your 51 rockers look indeed pretty the same as my 56's.

@all:

Does anyone has an idea if Kanter should have these rocker panels, or if someone already bought them at Kanter?

Thanks,

Xavier

I think it was mentioned that one time Kanter did sell a repro but not sure whose or if he still does. Might send them an email and inquire.

It might also be worth an inquiry to the ebay place selling the first one and ask about it and how the slight curve on the bottom was formed. One other question unless someone here can answer it -- The first one shows the cutout for the hinge pillar but because of the view, I don't see that on C2C's. Do they also have the cutout or are they straight across on top as well as having the multiple straight bends to shape the curve.
