Thanks for the link to the 37 115C convertible. I did take the numbers but it has a repro VN plate which always adds a bit of uncertainty to the validity of the numbers.

Cheers

The thief proof number provided for that 54 Clipper Deluxe (C81846) immediately precedes one provided by Erik54, in this post from another thread, for his 54 Pacific (C81847).

I believe that's the first time we seen something like that here. Not that it's statistically significant, but an unusual occurence - especially after nearly 60 years since those cars rolled off the assembly line.

These numbers that OD catalogs are indeed interesting. How does one know however if cars sequentially left the plant? With my 400 per OD the thief number is an "odd ball" (my word), so when did my 5587-4182 really leave Packard for transport to a dealership?

To be able to interview plant workers of that era.......

Interesting.

From what I've been told, my Clipper came out of Tennessee or Kentucky.

I'm going to guess that he number was pressed into the firewalls in sequence. But then the fire walls were moved to assembly in batches on skids. But not necessarily in the order they were pressed. So you will see a run of them come down the line and then a huge jump in order.

Which brings up a point, where the firewalls all the same? Across all models?

There are differences in cowls or firewall stampings within a year. Differences depend on the year but generally convertibles were different, as were right-hand-drive cars of course.

No, I didn't have that one, and thanks for thinking of me. It's a very late car, about 200 from the end of the run. Though probably more were sold with rear-mounted spare tire than not, it's uncommon to see that these days when everyone wants sidemounts. I hope it finds a home, but it appears that it's primary value now will be as an organ donor.

I hit a good-sized jackpot at the PAC National in Pontiac in the form of about 400 or 500 new car sales records from McCormack Bros. Motor Sales of Birmingham AL (Atlanta Zone office). There were in the form of New Car Delivery Record and Vehicle Delivery Record and Redemption Certificate cards from 1946 thru 1950. I'll enclose a couple of samples for those who find this type of information interesting.

Data entry has started, it will take me several weeks. After I'm finished, if any of you have 46-50 Packards delivered by McCormack I'll be glad to see if I have the particulars for you. I now have data for about 3500 cars including about 1000 new car deliveries, the others from Goss Motors, Aurora IL (Chicago Branch), Newtown Motors (Syracuse, NY Branch) and Autola Oy (Finnish agent).
