Been looking for an interesting set of floor mats and got to thinking, which is always dangerous.

Has anyone carpeted their car with something more interesting than plain carpeting?

An oriental rug look perhaps?

Something garish from the hotel world possibly?

Pseudo animal skins are not allowed in this discussion.

Something tasteful like, say, the type of pattern usually found on wing back chairs?

No shag, coir, berber or similar fads.

Been looking on the net for several days and can't find anything I really like....

If you search persian or oriental you get the real think, not the mass produced stuff, which is what I want..

No interesting patterns but I went with the carpet Dwight Heinmuller sells. It's Karastan? house carpet in the correct 56 color but is dense -- much thicker than the typical auto carpet. With the extra foam pad under, almost what I would call plush. Am quite pleased with the way it turned out.

I have thought that for a 50's car, some of the GM carpet with the metallic thread (think Pontiac) would look pretty sharp.

Perhaps, if were lucky... very lucky... Flackmistress may chime in with some recommendations and observations brought from travels abroad concerning the finest tapestries and rugs that might be fit for transformation into auto floor coverage.

Nicely crafted Coco mats are attractive additions to modern automobiles, especially those made in Europe. May not compliment our Packards, but I like them.
