I'm kind of curious about the one I removed. Haven't found it yet to post a photo. I think the knob would be preferable because it looks balanced but it probably cost more to machine the plug with a stem to hold the knob.

I'm wondering if there was an old and new design and mostly undocumented change --sort of like that small vertical trim seam cover below the trunk lid Randy was posting about last year. Maybe they started out plain with this one and decided the unbalanced appearance wasn't to Packard standard or maybe they had the knob piece originally and ran out so went cheap because something else that would do the job was available.

Thanks for the information and pictures. Grabbed the bezel off eBay and will keep eyes open for switch blank or real switch if I find a heated under seat. Saturday fun!
