The extra notch I think is so it works with the 51 circle and the 52 regular emblem. The baking soda did not scratch and polished very well. I think I need a more aggressive (sandpaper) method to get the deep scratches out first to make the emblems look better.

I just used one of those headlight restoration kits on my daughter's car, worked great. Starts with 1000 grit, then 3000, then some polishing compound. Noticably hazy after the first step, better and then the polish made them nicely clear. I don't think you want to try to totally remove scratches as you'll just create hours of work and then have noticable distortion in the former scratch areas.

Is that the transparent red paint that was mentioned in that video?

I think so...I watched a lot of videos. I used Testors gloss custom red translucent in a small spray can.

Just what I was going to say could well be voltage drop. I had that on a Diamond T truck, the starter pulled so many amps to it, there was not enough for a good spark. Is the coil an old coil. Whats the output on the 6 volt battery. Sounds like a nice project. good luck.Howard

Good idea! I'll add it to the list! Certainly can't hurt.

Last Saturday I took the car out again for a stroll around the neighborhood. The front clunking I heard on the previous ride was gone. I'm guessing it was something rattling because of the fact that there are no seals on the car for the doors and the hood latch is not catching. Never left 2nd gear but it was nice to go driving. Two very young girls stared at the car as we went by so I honked the "Ahooga" horn at them. They laughed like crazy!

The speedometer stopped working (noticed the drive before this one). I'll have to check on the cable.

While staying out of the heat I have been cleaning up the rear chrome trunk ornament. The clear coat on it was peeling so I used the baking soda/Murphy's soap concoction to remove it. Worked pretty good. Still have a little left to take off. This is leaving me some beautiful chrome!

Repainted the letters and put black paint in the spaces of the "rays". Looks pretty good with the plastic emblem!
