Quick update. There is a NOS heat riser valve for sale on eBay right now.http://www.ebay.com/itm/1955-56-Packard-Heat-Riser-Valve-440853-NOS-/322254562349?hash=item4b07de642d:g:-10AAOSwjVVVxkua&vxp=mtr. Cost is $134.99. Hope that this helps.

I've seen that riser on eBay. Just waiting to see if I actually need one or not. Max's has them for $125 no idea on shipping.

I would not mind having a non-functioning valve. I just fixed the pin because I could. I'm in Ky and no plans to drive in cold weather. (Just hopping to drive it someday)

However, I do not want leave the part off the car. Without it the pipe would be closer to the steering cylinder and hoses.

My concern now is with that lip on the upper side of the riser. There is little left of mine.

When I google "exhaust manifold spacer" I find there are several muscle cars that used plane spacer. One for a 69-70 Mustang is below. I cannot find a measurement and there is no lip on it.

I wonder, since the riser does not have any true bolt holes, if the lip and flange are needed on a spacer like below?

I know this is an obvious solution but has any one looked to see what other makes had used the same heat riser? Most parts houses have cross reference tables. It might do two things: solve this headache and save some cash.

I have crossed referenced common items like filters, spark plugs, fuel pumps, electrical and of course bearings.

I can't see my local NAPA being able to find a matching Heat Riser. Back during the summer I was looking for a thermostat flange and they were no help. I did eventually find one for a dodge truck but I got that tip from someone here.

Does anyone know what the measurement is for the bolt holes of the manifold where the riser connects?

I found a spacer on eBay for a Ford 352. They call this a "Heat Riser Valve Eliminator Spacer". My manifolds are already bolted on so I can't measure it without removing it from the engine. This one is showing the holes either 3" or 3 and 1/16 on centers.

Stewart,
I'm not close to the parts, but if you measured the heat riser indents, what does it measure?

I've got a pair of manifolds on the shelf. If by the time I get back home tonight no one else has responded, I'll be glad to take a measurement for you.

PS: looks like 3-3/32

I went out this morning and took this measurement as suggested. It's close, real close. The holes are not threaded so there will be some play. It's only $29.

Since it has two true bolt holes I think the lip that the original riser has is not necessary. Would just to locate a couple new gaskets for both sides. They should be fairly common.

I found this on the shelf this morning. I had forgot that I kept the original exhaust pipe pieces that connected to the manifold.

This measurement is 3 1/8 and I'm sure its a little over sized to allow fitment on various cars.

I purchased that Ford blank/spacer last night. By next weekend we'll know if it works.

Stewart.

I used a dremil and removed the flap. But after i put the piece in . that cast lip broke and i had an exhast leak.

So i bored it out and put a piece of stainless steel in there. Pic in my blog.
