I've noticed sometimes 200-300+ users on the website at any one time. While I would love to think that was active users, I would say 75% are probably SPAM bots probing for access. So I have added Geo Blocking to the website to deny IP connections from source countries that are known for such behavior.
While this isn't foolproof by any means, it will help reduce the overhead traffic associated with the bots here on the website.

I also found some "Web Marketing Companies" that were heavy-hitting the website from Virginia, England, and France. They have been shown the door as well.
Now, instead of seeing 200+ users online, I see less than 30, making everything more peppy.

Just to get an idea of how effective the geo-blocking was, look at the drop in hits from the prior days the last 24 hours.
So from 500,000+ hit average to ~50,000. So a 90% drop in resource-consuming traffic. Begone foul bots! Attach file:  ScreenShot 804.jpg (55.54 KB)

Good job on the filters. What did you use or was it something specific to xoops?
Also, I’ve noticed lately that when clicking on a photo to see a larger view, recenty uploaded ones are tiny - almost microscopic. I can drag them larger on the PC and they look fine without pixelization but on a mobile device that’s not possible. Any ideas?

No idea why the photos would look small on a mobile device. Nothing has changed in that regards in awhile. They look fine on my mobile devices.
The geo filter is just through IPTables on the default Linux firewall software. I'm blocking most the counties by there two letter country designator associated with their IP range.

I may not have server access to install a filter like that as mine is shared with other users even though I have my own dedicate IP address.
On the photos, they do it both on a mobile device and on PCs. The only difference is that on the PC I can drag them larger but I cannot do so in a mobile device.
