Please make sure to check that the vent in the gas tank filler cap is fully clear. Typically it is tiny and can clog with minor corrosion. Also please check that all fuel line connections are tight and that the fuel pump sediment bowl gasket is sound.

The '37 120 gas cap has a tiny brass tube inside the anti-splash baffle. I was able to access mine and blow out the tube. It's very small and subject to corrosion, dust, and gum accumulation. Old gas caps often have decayed gaskets that can allow dust and debris to get into the tank.

Based on Dave's description in post #12 I made a heat shield and installed it. I'll be running premium in the car and see how it works out.

I wasn't sure how to anchor it, but decided on a single point using one of the screws on top of the bowl. Easy to do, but not very sophisticated.

If vapor lock occurs in again I'll install an electric pump, which I may do anyway.

I want to thank everyone for the inputs.

There are a couple of Technical Service Letters I posted today that cover Vapor Lock and retrofitting shields and other parts.
