As a follow-up I found the orig oil pressure sending unit, so I proceeded to clean it up and used my meter to test the ohms and it does read 70 ohms. So I believe it is good. I'll reinstall and hope for the best. Any body have any tips on how to tighten it with out distorting the sender?

Is there enough room for a crowfoot wrench?

I decided to just install the cleaned up orig. oil pressure sending unit on my adaptor. Well it worked for about 5min. After start the needle came up and stopped at the correct location that would be read as approx. 65psi. It stayed there and then the needle jumped and slowly went back down to 0 and never came back. This make the second sending unit to do that. The oil pressure dash gauge, the temp gauge and the gas gauge work off of a common power wire with a 5volt reducer. All the other gauges on that line seem to be working fine. I'm puzzelled!

Has anyone run into something like this before?

FWIW, looking for something else, I found a NOS oil pressure sending unit.

Trying to set a fair value on it, I couldn't find it in Kanter's website. Anyone know where it is listed?

I'd check the Max Merrit website to get an idea of pricing. The Kanter website hasn't been updated in a long time as far as their Packard parts go.

My advice.

Don't waste a Packard sending unit with a melling pump.

Look on line for a 0.100 with the ohm range of Packard

Not sure where I got this unit on mine but it's been working.

It is a Ford unit

Agree, Kanter is not keeping their website current. Even their phone sales staff must physically go to the shelf on many items to confirm it is in stock.

Max Merritt thinks a sending unit is worth $65-$95. I'll confirm which unit I've found and make someone a packardinfo deal.

Does p/ 6439312 seem correct for an oil pressure sending unit?

I don't see that number in the Packard numerical index but it could be a late replacement item Stude provided after Packard went away so might not have made the parts book.

Here is what the parts manual offers.
