Does anyone have a good cam for an Autolite IGP 4502-C or similar distributor? I have two but both are too rusty to use.

Would you consider dunking it in Evapo-rust and report back if the surface finish of the cam is acceptable?

If it were just surface rust it wouldn't be a problem but it is deeply pitted too so should be replaced. The cam should be shiny and smooth!

I’m thinking the rubbing block may not mind a few pits along the way, especially when the block is off of the cam.

I would just blast the rust off with a steel wheel and check the operation. Pits aren't ideal but to me it looks like there is plenty of bearing surface left if it were just cleaned.

'55 400. Needs aesthetic parts put back on, and electrical system sorted.
'55 Clipper Deluxe. Engine is stuck-ish.

I would think Evapo-Rust would remove the 'red rust' and then allow a much better visual inspection. If what remains is a bunch of pits located where the rubbing block doesn't touch the cam then that's OK

I ended up going the easy way by handing it over to my brother to take to his shop next door where he worked wonders with it! He’s really good that that sort of thing. What looks like a pit in the photo is actually a discoloration so it will be fine.
