Treadle-vac replacement, ABS Power Brake kit

Hello all,
I received my ABS Power Brake treadle-vac replacement kit. I thought I'd start my own thread on this subject.

This should fit 51 to 55 cars.

The floor plate and brake pedal assembly is well made.

I grabbed some pics and attached them.

I currently working on laying the new floor plate assembly over top of the inplace OE plate. But need to figure out how the accelerator pedal pivot pin is held in place. Need to remove the pin so I can pull the accelerator pedal to pull the carpet back. I have the clutch pedal pad removed and the brake pedal from the treadle-vac rod. Anyone happen to know what secured the accelerator pedal pivot pin?

The brake pedal did measure in at 4:1 ratio. I didn't get a chance to do much else.

Thanks,
Earl

On mine the accelerator pedal pin just pulls out. No idea if there was something else there previously, as this is how it was when I got it. I needed to use a screwdriver to wedge between it and the pedal to get it moving. It's a tight fit. Then pop the pedal off the linkage ball.

This part of my disassembly video shows it"

Thanks! I couldn't feel anything holding the pin in. The carpet is all bunched up on that side of the pin I so can't look at it. The parts manual didn't list any kind of a retainer for 1953. So maybe it's like you said, a slight press fit. Unfortunately I ran out of time to try prying the pin loose.

Do the two brass nipples on the top of each MC chamber go to a reservoir? Where is that located in your installation?

That looks like a well thought out kit.

Yes those are the hose connections for the remote reservoir. I will find a place on the firewall for it. I will mount in a way that doesn't require new holes so the car can be returned to original.

I was able to do a quick fitting of the pedal assembly toe plate. I removed the treadle-vac to toe plate bolts so I could remove the toe plate and leave the treadle-vac in place. I have a clutch, so I will need to use my plasma cutter to cut out the square hole in the ABS Brake plate. It's a little crooked but allowed me to quickly fake drive it to see how the new pedal and location did. It will definitely work for me. I could still pivot on my heal from the throttle to the brake. Guys will larger feet may have to pick their foot up like any other vintage car to press the brake. Even my 93 Dodge Ram D250 you had to pick your foot up to brake.

This is extremely ideal for me. ABS did a great job. I don't have to make any holes, rig up a pedal assembly, or loose my crotch vent. This is plug and play and completely reversible without modifying the car.

I did confirm it's a correct 4:1 pedal ratio. It's a Bendix style 8" dual booster.

Is that the original pedal still in position above the rubber pad? In the engine compt, can you get an estimate yet on how close the booster or actually any of the new brake apparatus will come to the steering column and could it be raised even more if a section of firewall was modified or a different plate was made to raise and be able to use the same new 4:1 pedal arrangement.

Yes, the OE pedal is still attached to the firewall. It was higher than it would normally be though. No idea yet how the modern booster and master will fit up yet. I would say it's going to be tight or they would of went with a dual 9" booster. I won't know the engine compartment fit until late spring. I still need to get a combination valve, 10 psi residual valve and the disc brake kit yet. I also need to get some nicopp brake tubing and replace all the original brake lines. Dual circuit isn't any good if you blow out the lines on both circuits. lol

This was just a quick mock up. I don't want to pull the OE booster and render the car unmovable. Need to keep brakes until I have components to do the project at once vs bits.

Does the new brake pedal stick further out? Hard to tell from the angle of the pictures. I'm definitely interested to see how this kit works out. I would love to get rid of my weird manual dual master set up. It works but I'd like something that looks more factory and isn't cobbled together.
