Trans/OD install, 48 Custom

The trans. and O/D is back in the 48 and I am now trying to seal up the leaks and seepage from it.

There is a small seal in the solenoid mounting plate that is leaking.

Has anyone found a replacement for this seal, the sole. plunger is a strange size, .305.

Packard #333833
John

I'd be glad to browse my seal catalogs if you can clarify the dimensions. I think you're saying the shaft size is 0.305? We'd also require the size of the opening (bore) in the housing (or the OD of the old seal) and the width of the seal and whether there is any wiggle room in that dimension.

When you get the dimensions, O_D can verify in the catalog if these numbers are good. I have that list that has a cross for #333833 as being a Victor 47247, C/R 3050 or National 240698. Of course, those are all old numbers and may have changed.

For anyone interested who missed mention of this list, someone compiled what seems to be a fairly complete list of Packard and Studebaker seals by factory part number and cross referenced them to aftermarket. I don't know who, when, or the accuracy but here is the link again. Might be worth downloading at least as a starting point.http://www.studebaker-info.org/Cb/MetalSealXch.txt

I bought a # 33383 seal from Max Merritt Packard Parts. Price is $10.

Shaft size is .307, the thickness is about .225 and o/d is about .750. I don't want to remove the seal until I have a replacement in hand.

I ordered a #333833 from JD at Max M. Sometimes I forget the obvious solution.

Thanks, John
