Does the deluxe heater on a 1940 110 with defrosters have a reversible motor one direction for heat and another for the defrosters?
Or do you just close the doors for defrost and open for heat.
Can anyone provide instructions on how to wire and what type of switch is used.
Hate to admit not being able to figure this out but "need advice".

The deluxe heater is reversable. There were two different kinds of switches, a paddle switch, and the more common round knob.

Here's what the paddle switch looks like. There is a wiring diagram for auxiliary equipment like a heater in the 1940 Owners Manual.

And what's left of a rotary switch for models that used them.

Not sure which year but this particular heater is a "Super Deluxe" and has a fan blade that blows CCW thru core to floor and a squirrel cage blower on the same shaft that when turned CW, blows air to defroster vents.

4 wires going to motor & wish I could help on the colors and terminals on switch but no markings other than color dots on switch and too faded to see those or the wire colors. Joe's looks in better shape so maybe he can help with location.

thank you, we have thanks to your, help fiqured it out and now lookin for the right switch. This is what makes this forum so great.

thank you think i have a lead on the switch illistrated. In an old time auto parts store here in Modesto.

Thanks, no luck on the paddle switch but may have found the rotary switch not Packard but new old stock aftermarket for a 6 volt reversible heater should look authentic.

Probably don't need this, John.

Wiring instructions:
Red: Ignition switch to heater switch (Loose Feed)
Red: Heater Switch 1 to Heater Motor 1
Yellow: Heater Switch 2 to Heater Motor 2
Green: Heater Switch 3 to Heater Motor 3
Brown: Heater Motor Ground to Ground.

Had to do a little cleaning of the wires to determine color.
Pictures are worth a 1,000 words as the saying goes.

I'm not surprised you didn't find a paddle switch. They are very, very rare. If one did come up for sale, you'd probably pay well over $200 for it, if the person knew what they had, and if there were no knowledgable bidders.
