Hi

The auction of Norm's Antique Supply in Davenport, Iowa August 26, 2012 has a very nice-looking '40 160 Convertible Coupe with sidemounts and Packard NOS parts listed:

The pictures:

A couple real rarities too, a '27 Stearns-Knight D-6-85 Victoria Coupe and a '27 Stutz Vertical 8 AA 5 passenger sedan. Norm knew great cars!

Well, Norm may have known how to select nice cars, but the auction company has described the Packard wrong - it is NOT a convertible victoria.

Only the Darrin bodied cars in 1940 (body number 700) and 1941 were designated convertible victorias. IMHO, the correct body style (body numbers 1379 & 1479) is convertible coupe.

I have seen this often and don't know if it is caused by lack of knowledge or salesman's puffery.

Such a sad note on which to dispose of a man's passion. I hope the auction brings more than expected.
