V 12 Motor Mounts, and Hello Again

Hello again. About a year ago I was asking various questions regrading pre-war Packards and several of you were kind enough to help me a lot. I have been able to take my 3D modeling project of a similar pre-war car much further thanks to the photos and suggestions I received. I have two questions:

1: Does anybody have either diagrams or pictures of the V12 motor mounts? I can't find any.

2: There is a 1937 Super 8 Limo in Oklahoma that has been advertised several times in Hemmings. The ad says it needs a complete restoration, but that some work has been done already. Does anybody know anything about the car?

Thanks very much,

Andacar

Hello Andacar,

You may want to check Steele or Maxmerritt.

http://www.steelerubber.com/

Steele shows some generic images of motor mounts on their site.

Regards,

Dave

Welcome back Andacar, love to see what your model is looking like now. I don't think I can help you with V12 engine mounts but I'm wondering what you'd do with a Super 8 Limo. I have seen the add you're talking about but there are no pictures so it's condition could be anything. Are you thinking about building a car?

Did I see in some of your previous postings where the 34 Twelve had three carburetors fitted? Tri-power V-12? If so, it a special intake manifold or a stock manifold with an adapter plate?

What a beautiful piece of engineering.

However, I would assume that a valve adjustment would be a major issue. It looks like there are roller rockers riding on the cam. Were the lifters hydraulic? (I don't see any lifters in the blueprint).

Also of note is the intake and exhaust on the top. Must have caused some intake charge heating?

Joey, the 1932-39 Packard V-12s used a design of roller tappets, rocker arms, and hydraulic silencers to operate the valves and maintain silent valve operation. This is shown in the cut-away drawing. Also, the early in-line eights used a roller tappet and rocker arm design, but these engines required the valve clearances to be adjusted. Also note the V-12s combustion chamber design. These design features are more complicated than the traditionally found, but most effective. Packard engineering.
