I am about to start doing the wood frame on my 34 ll01 and have been told that the wood is a butternut. Anyone know?

Butternut? I have Never heard that. Most all Packard wood I have dealt with has been white oak, for top bows and interior tack strips. For the frame to body layer, I think Ash or Maple would be a good choice.

According to Packard's 1934 databook, the woods used in the 1934 cars are ash, maple and birch. Many of those in the business of restoring wood framing say oak is a particularly poor choice.

On my 34, most of the wood was ash. But, this is an open car.
