38 differential cross shaft removal

I have my differential out and for the life of me I can't see how to get the pin that holds the cross shaft out. There doesn't seem to be any slot in the exposed end nor does there seem to be any way to drive it out from the other side. I want to shim the side gears.

Isn't there just a cotter pin? You may have to remove the ring gear for clearance.

There are some preloading procedures to follow. If there is a noise problem any truck or driveline place should be able to do them for you. Once the thing comes apart the preloads have to be redone. They are outlined in the manuals.
