I will have the Packard in attendance this weekend. Starts tonight and runs through Sunday. They are expecting 1,000 cars and 20,000+ spectators. It's a true "cruise" car show were the cars keep movie on a circuit around downtown.

I was the only Packard in attendance. The event was sold out with 1,000 cars present, and 30,000+ spectators.

Videos to follow.

100F Temps today and still a sell out event. Even at that low speed, and high outside temp, the engine temp never got above the 3/4 mark on the gauge.

BTW, all that engine noise you here is from other cars, not the Clipper. There were a lot of open header cars driving around.

Let's see: ~1,000 cars in attendance...subtract the ubiquitous Chevies and you have about 500 cars. It looked like there about as many Caddys as there were Pontiacs. And a few bullet-nose Studes added spice. Besides the ride in your Packard, I liked the rods the best. You represented Packard extremely well.

When I drove to "Hot August Nights" in Reno/Sparks in 1999 with my 55 Pat, there were 4,000 registered cars and maybe another 2,000 not registered. There were 3 real Packards there total (55 Pat, 55 400 and a 48 4dr -- I don't count the 38 rodded 4dr), hence my 1 or 2 guesstimate at your show.

Thanks for the videos, I enjoyed the ride!

Craig

Kev, thanks for the neat videos. It's almost like visual overload with so many vehicles. I took the Clipper for a nice ride this morning. Drove it on a hilly, twisty, narrow road that winds around the north side of Lake Travis. Clipper ran cool and never missed a beat. Your drive looks more interesting. Nice to see you driving and enjoying the Packard.

There were probably another 300+ cars parked on side streets that were not part of the show but brought out their cars. Here right now for day 3.

Also, if you watch towards the end of the 2nd video, I pass the front of the Fox Theater. Which is on the registry of historic buildings and was acquired by the city and restored a few years ago. It's claim to fame was that is was the first theater in the country to screen to "Gone With the Wind".

Since Hollywood/LA is only 60 miles away, studios often used the theater to screen movies for initial public reaction before general release back in the 30s and 40s.
