I can move complete threads to different forums, but not split an existing thread into multiple "child" threads.

Perhaps we should just start a seperate Crank, and Rod threads and go from there.

ok. So then, which head has the SMALLEST combustion chamber of all Packard V8's built in 55 and 56 ???

AFAIK, all '56 heads were the same and are the smallest. That's where the 9.5 and 10.0 compression comes from.

thnx, jack vines.

My calculations for COMBUSTION CHAMBER capacity:

(I used pi = 3.1415 NOT 3.1416).

------------------------in**3 / cc's.
56 352 and 374------ 4.65 / 76.20 (+- 1cc).
55 352---------------- 5.17 / 84.72.
55 320---------------- 4.70 / 77.08.

56 Hash 320, 7.8 CR: 5.13 in**3 same as 55 352 head above as previously claimed by JV.

Notice the 8cc difference between 320 and 55 352 as JV had determined earlier in the thread.

What we do not know is if there is any significant chamber CAPACITY difference between 320 Cast and Machine dome heads. Based on the wording of the SC that Owen refered to then my guess is NO difference in capacity.

The CCs in the table seem just a bit different than I got for head volume. Did you remember to subtract the block deck volume and head gasket volume in your calculations? For the actual head combustion chamber, I calculate:

'56 352" - 75 cc
'55 352" - 86 cc
'55 320" - 78 cc

thnx, jack vines

My calculations were simple. I used only the bore, stroke and CR AS PUBLISHED. I did not take into account deck or gasket. What was i off by??? 1-cc ???

I found that the 56 352 and 374 specs gave about a 1 cc difference between them anyway. So the factory CR specs are probably NOT much more ACCURATE.

Main reason for the calculations was to determine the order of the heads from biggest to smallest.

I'm still wondering if there was any difference in combustion chamber size between 320 CD and 320 Machine dome heads.
