found this last weekend. an actual book full of these products one could get from NAPA. even saw one that looked like it might be long enough to retain the firewall pad on the 55/56

thought I'd post incase anyone found this useful.

Hank, thanks for sharing those NAPA fasteners. I had another idea about fastening the pad to the cowl wall. How about using long binder posts? A washer might be needed on the pad side, but I think they would work and there would be no protrusions on the engine side. Your use of elevator bolts may still be the best solution.
