Does the gas pedal just pop off the accelerator rod? Or is there a clip or something? Mine doesn't seem to want to pop off the rod and I don't want to force it if a clip is there somewhere.

It is a ball and socket joint at the top. The rubber socket is molded to the back of the pedal and rod just pulls out but if the rubber is dry, hard and brittle there is every chance the rubber will split or pull off the metal back. Grasp the top of the pedal and wrap two fingers behind on either side of the rod with fingers squeezing the socket to the metal. Support the socket with your fingers as you pull the rod free..

The bottom pin does have a semicircular clip in a groove on the tunnel side. That can be a pain to remove as the clip wants to rotate around the groove. Generally you can get the open section facing you and then use thin needle nose pliers with a tip on either side of the clip to push it down and out of the groove.

In the worst case if the rubber does break off the pedal Kanter has new repros.
