If you look at picture "CIMG8571", you can see where the plate is attached to at least 3 points on front of the water pump. Or at least that is how it looks to me.

I count at least 6 mounting points. I cant imagine any vibration or anything coming loose!

1) Water Pump Bolt
2) Bracket to Oil Filter Mounting Bolt
3) Water Pump Bolt
4) Head Bolt
5) Water Pump Bolt
6) Compressor base plate welded to above bracket, and then the compressor base plate is attached to at least 1 head bolt.

Also notice the different radiator fan, and the addition of a fan shroud.

Saw those but the York appears to be on a plate that extends out a good 6" or more over manifold with the plate bolted to pump under about front center. That is still a lot of weight for one head bolt so was wondering if there was something at rear of plate as well mounted to something.. Still pretty elaborate though and must work well. Weren't you going to mount yours on drivers side where PS pump would go?

EDIT Maybe. The vertical under should provide a lot of strength

Yeah, I think that the PS location would still be the best as there are already mounting locations for it on the block. Plus it will keep the modern compressor out of direct view, and keep it away from the heat of the manifold. But if someone already had PS, then this is a interesting way of doing it on the manifold side. I wonder if they are using the foward manifold bolt for the other side of that compressor base plate.

Interesting that the car has power hydraulic windows (pump on firewall), but doesnt have power steering.

What was the first year for power steering?

Not a big deal but if you happen to run into him, would be curious how it supported. As Kev said, an interesting way of doing it. There are several who have expressed interest in adding AC to that era car so any info to be passed along, gladly collected.

EDIT: 53 for PS & 52 for PB (brakes could be retrofitted to 51's by dealer)

Howard, thanks for that info.

Carl, if you happen to run across the gentleman again, can you try to get a picture of the crank pulley arrangement. Just curious how that A/C belt is being driven. I wonder if he is using the power steering bolt on.

The '53/'54 A/C units mounted in the trunk and blew up through the package tray. I believe the trunk units were made by Frigidaire. '53 was the first year for Packard A/C after WWII.

Yes, and always easy to identify these cars from the exterior by the two air intake scuppers on the rear fenders.
