Enough about German Packards! Let's show some pics of a Dutch Packard

Some months ago, this car came back from the painter. Today, I replaced the seats. Fairly a lot of work on your own.

Tom

Thanks for sharing the pictures, and please keep us updated on your terrific project. Is it a 53 or a 54?

Off the topic by a wide margin, but by chance have you been to Rotterdam and visited the ss Rotterdam in her new role and static display? It's on my list, I sailed on her quite few times, back from Holland to the US in 1968 was the first time.

PS - and judging by how much of your head extends above the windshield, you must be close to 2 meters tall?

It's a 51! With number 2469 2074 it is the oldest convertible from the 24th series still on the road (Ed Ostrowski from the Packard Club told me).

No, I didn't visit the SS Rotterdam yet. When I do, I will sent you some pictures.

And yes, I am almost 2 meters tall.

Regards, Tom

Tom, quick response! Could you send me the thief-proof number (the large embossed number on the cowl near the heater box)? There was a 51 convertible on eBay a while back, 2469-2001 (the 1st made) though I don't recall if it was roadworthy or a total wreck or something in between.

I got fooled by the upper corner on the windshield. In the closed cars only the 53 and 54 have sharp corners, the 51 and 52 are rounded, or at least I thought. Never looked closely but maybe the open cars are different?

Yes, I'd love some ss Rotterdam pictures when convenient. Here's a picture of it's last departure from Ft. Lauderdale FL under HAL ownership. And the steam turbine control panel from the days when passengers could still tour "the works". And my apologies to others for digressing into another of my interests.

Hey!

Knap project Tom! Dat wordt een aantrekkelijke verschijning, misschien zien we die nog eens op SNC in Den Haag?

Groetjes,

Xavier

@ all: I was just mentionning Tom that his Packard will be an eyecatcher when the resto has finished.

Bizar that one can write in dutch on an American forum... .
