The left front wheel on my 1928 Model 526 Packard has become slightly loose and makes some unseemly noises when spun. I’m thinking I need to replace the wheel bearings. Can anyone recommend a good source?
Thanks,
Phil

Also, you can pull it apart and see if the bearing has a number stamped on it. Then you can try a local Napa or parts store as they may be able to order it.

I replaced my front wheel bearings with new. Purchased from 'Locateballbearings.com'

Inner Roller tapered Timkin 3386
Inner race Timkin 3331 I think!
Outer roller tapered Timkin 2687
Outer race Timkin 2620

Timkin 3386 also on Amazon at $51.60 each

Please double check your part numbers when you remove the old bearings just to be sure but I also have a 1928 526.

I thank you all for your help. I finally got a chance to address the wheel bearing issue. I’m pleased to say that the bearings appear to be in fine shape, with no noticeable wear or abrasion. The grease looks fine, also, with no evidence of having seen heat.

When I reassembled everything, the noise went away. I think the noise was simply a result of the retaining nut being too loose, allowing the wheel to wobble more than it should. Now, a nice smooth operation, with no wobble, and no noise.
Thanks again,

Phil

No. Given the conditions, I chose not to molest. Wrong decision? If so, why? Or, why not? :)
Thanks,
Phil
