Brake lights were not working, bulbs are good, replaced brake switch and still not working. But when I run jump across terminals brake lights come on.

What year and was it a new switch or is there any relay involved with the switch and brake circuit such as in the 55-6 three terminal switch conversions?

Sounds like the new brake switch is bad, or there is an air bubble in the master cylinder which is keeping the switch from activating.
