Howard, it's solid/bolted in. I'll give it a closer look tomorrow.

Don, so technically, you were playing around in yours too!

Yes, that's very true! I just took up more space doing it.

Please post some more pics of the mystery item. Is it bolted in?

'55 400. Needs aesthetic parts put back on, and electrical system sorted.
'55 Clipper Deluxe. Engine is stuck-ish.

Mystery Box just some very old antiquated aftermarket stereo components. Wires ran to the package tray speaker as well as to the front of the car, including the motorola switch that was laying on the floor of the car. The only thing mildly interesting is it's either old enough to of had a tube in it, or some form of lighting ??
Cheers.
Forgot to mention. The last of the trunk mat was hiding under said mystery box.

Good probability is that was an aftermarket FM radio and you are holding the tuning dial.

It looks like a reverb unit to me too and I have one from the factory in my 1965 Imperial LeBaron.

Interesting. What's the point of having radio reverb?

It provides a slight delay in the sound to the rear speaker to give the feeling of a larger space
