Recently the question came up about the styles of parking gear on the twin ultras. I figured I would take a look at mine. The parts books and counselors give:

450227 - 54GS, 55
424275 - 55 (revised)
6470248 - 56

However mine clearly says 470102 which is not even a number for anything.

My trans serial is 52491.

Anyone know if this is normal?

Casting numbers are not necessarily the same as a finished good whether for production or service.

You would need to compare casting numbers between the different parts. Then, different part number could be assigned due to a different grind or finish.

Member PackardV8 and I had a discussion about this, several years ago, WRT to the cast interior door top trim piece. The part on his Exec hardttop was painted, while the same part on my Caribbean H/T was chrome-plated. Yet, both had the same casting number.

Ok thanks, makes sense. Mostly curious whether this one is the old or revised part, and if someone happens to have a picture of the opposite style.

The numerical index and supersession record for the 1955-56 parts list shows 470102 as superseded by 424275

I'm confused. Since part numbers are generally issued in numeric sequence, it doesn't make sense that a lower number would replace a higher one. However, SC Vol. 29 No. 7 shows 474275 as the new gear for 55.

BH he meant to say 474275.

Thanks BDeB, I was misremembering and thought the 54GS and 55 were the same originally.

Interestingly the 54GS number was supersceded by the 56 number.

That's OK, hph. You and BDeB provided the same part number, and I wasn't sure if there was a factory typo somewhere.
