Weld is most likely problem. Doubt if repairable either so probably time to start looking for another. Max Merritt has new elements for a price as will other vendors, but should be easy to find complete used ones in good condition & you can just unscrew and transfer the element. Element same from 48-54.

I know that Dan Yocum has the elements also. I swapped out my 6v elements for some 12v ones he had. But he also had a box of 6 volt ones.

Dan's information is in the Directory, but here is:

Dan Yocum
Yocum Packard Parts
Sylmar, CA
818-362-8255

(Specializes in used 51-56 Packard Parts)

Dan also reproduces a few parts. He makes the 55/56 dash bezel removal tool, and also has reproduced the 54 Senior Headlight rings (the ones with the little fin) in solid aluminum, then it is chrome plated. A couple of Ralph Moranos '54s have Dan's headlight rings on them.
