Great one! I was actually not the one who first brought up the grill/grille issue when I also had written grill rather than grille and was corrected but I do admit to propagating the correction.

Languages were my hobby in high school and college (I studied German, Spanish and Hindi) and, as a former editor for a PAC publication, I was surprised that that was something that had never come up in all the years I was doing it. Of course, that was pre-Internet where the knowledge of the world is now at our disposal so no excuse to be ignorant of our own native language and I don’t mean you, Bob! I’m speaking in general when I read things that are barely comprehensible and I don’t mean misspellings.

I confess to not realizing that the two spellings were anything more than Webster's Vs Oxford!
Another reason to read more!
Still a work in progress

They are often misused even on restaurants such as the Aloha Island Grille near where I live in Santa Cruz, CA. Also, when I was proofing the 1948-1954 Packard Parts Book, the original printed version flip flopped between the two.
