These are used on the grille and splasher for the 51-56 cars and are often missing or not useable. The originals look like this:
![]() Option 1: If you have enough bolts, the speed nut can be replaced with an Auveco 1907 if you open it up to fit the Packard metal. If possible, it's probably best to just hold it on and screw the screw on, for example in the grille to upper bar application. Generally not possible in the upper splasher application. So if you just need a few, install the new ones to the upper grille area, then reuse the ones off that for the upper splasher. Option 2: The easiest option for a bulk install is to use GM part numbers 12337916 and 3846202 which have essentially the same external appearance but are black instead of cadmium plated. Make sure to get a kit that includes new speed nuts. Example. Option 3: To replace them exactly, you should first buy a set of Harbor Freight #67352 Nut and Bolt Assortment Kit which will give you 10 of the 5/16-18 screws with the correct "indented" hex head. Cut them to 3/4" size if being fastidious. Next get some zinc-plated USS 1/4" washers (not SAE and not 5/16"), these are the correct washer size. Next get some "5/16-18 U Speed Nuts" available in various places. Example. This will overall give the closest result, the principal difference being the different thread, but the outward appearance will be nearly perfect, being zinc plate instead of cad plate.
