HH, thanks once again for the great explanation and the picture will be of tremendous help.
I'll give her a go tomorrow.

The wiper motor requires a rebuild. It works great, it speeds up and slows down with the switch, until the wiper arms are put back on, then it is merely trying to do it's job.
Has anyone used Ficken for their rebuilds? If so were the results satisfactory.
I checked the pricing for a 55/57 chebie electric.
Waaay too pricey at +$229.00 and I'm not buying.

I had mine rebuilt by them. I was pleased & don't recall any negative comments posted by others who also had rebuilds.

Ficken is THE outfit to rebuild that wiper motor. It's cheaper than the Chebby bastardization unit and with good seals in the proper vacuum motor you will have all the wiper action you can use, and the car will still look like the shop manual for the next owner. They will turn it around in about a week. They are one of the top-drawer services companies in the old car field. I used to send half a dozen wiper motors a year to them, never a problem.

That "Chebbie bastardization unit" will work no matter what, even with the engine off. Can't say that about the vacuum unit.

Sometimes some of the guys on here remind me of this:

This is what I have on my 55 Pat:

http://www.1956packardpanther.com/wipers.html

You can buy the kit from Julianos, amongst others.

And, if you have the oil pump conversion kit or are planning to install same in the future, you need to convert to electric wipers anyway since the auxiliary vacuum pump on the original oil pump and the oil pump are replaced.

BTW Eric, that video was pretty funny!

Thanks everyone for the info and also for a couple of laughs. I'll send it to Flicken.
