I have acquired an original trunk light from a 1947 Custom and would like to know precisely where it should be located. can anoyone post a photo of one. I believe the light was standard on a Custom model and optional on all others.

Here is what one 47 Cust 8 has. This one has an interesting way to handle the excess wire by coiling it around loom down to where it plugs into the taillight circuit at the 4 hole connector. Assume it to be original but having not seen another, no guarantee. .

David, I apologize for being so slow in responding to your request. Here are three photos showing where a trunk light would be mounted on my 47 Custom Clipper Sedan. I looked, but could not quickly find where the wire to the light emerges from the loom. I hope these photos help. I am still looking for a trunk light assembly for my car. I would appreciate it if anyone out there who has one for sale would let me know. Regards.

Thanks for all the help. The packard that I removed the light from is a 1947 Custom and there was a wire in the loom specifically for this light . If I recall correctly the Custom models 2106 and 2126 came equipped with a trunk light as standard. In the 51 -54 manual there are instructions for installing a trunk light accessory and it mentions that the wire is to be connected to the licence plate light wire by replacing the single connector with a 4 way one. I am assuming that the blue car was not a Custom and that the light was installed as an accessory hence the rather shoddy installation. Am I correct?

Blue one is a custom 4 dr sedan. 2122-6309, Briggs 2122-5862, Motor# F516850 and TP# <726588>. I think am the 4th registered owner, far as I know original, but interesting the difference in looms. Also having never really compared, just realized the Briggs & Packard numbers have quite a spread.

Was it the original loom in the car you got the light from? 42 shows it at license lamp connector, no mention in 47 diagram but the 22-23 series wire diagrams show it connecting down at the tail light connector and none show anything up high. Says custom only on 22nd, but no designation on 23rd.

Very interesting. I am sure the wiring on the car is original. I was curious and wanted to get as much original wiring as possible when I removed the light and followed the wire right to where it entered the roof with all the other lighting wires so I assumed it was connected somewhere in the front of the car but could be wrong. Do you know what size bulb the light takes as the #51 one in there is pretty dull?

My bulb is missing but assume was same as yours. Looking at the base required for 51 (BA9s mini bayonet) there are only a few listed in that voltage range. On this website,http://www.bulbconnection.com/ViewItem/bcrw/itmid/1045/oc/51/item.html , the 51 appears to have the highest output.

Maybe it's my dim old eyes but there isn't much light from that #51 bulb
