I would say post war about a 1947 Lincoln club coupe

Yeah, John is right. It is post war. '47 or '48.

The front facia is different:

1940

1948

This car was Edsel Ford's personal pet project. Henry hated it.

It is a 1946 model. Slightly different grille than was used on the 1947-48 Continentals. Neat car.

If you keep this up, I'm going to have to dig out my Funk & Wagnalls, or Webster's Unabridged.

Yes, I would rather drive a "chimera"

than an "androgynous hermaphrodite." IMHO

It is definitely postwar.

However, comparing it to a 1940-41 is not accurate. They already looked like this in 1942. The main difference is the 1942 used horizontal grill bars while the postwar used the eggcrate grill. Personally I think the eggcrate looks better than the horizontal 1942

Those Lincolns (Continentals with the Zephyr V-12) are the worst dog cars I have ever driven, and I have driven about 5 of them, two were among the best restorations possible. There's just no go in that engine. all weight, no displacement. The best one I drove had a 1955 Cadillac V-8 in it, it approached being an automobile. Lincoln bought Hydramatic transmissions from GM in that era, and when the 'lil 12 gave it up for the ghost you could not afford to have them rebuilt, but the new Caddy OHV V-8 dropped right in and bolted up to the tranny, and that made a car out of it. Those Continentals have a good look, Edsel had a terrific eye, and would have lived to see Fo MoCo into a nice future if his weird old man had shown some pride and love in his son. Walter P. Chrysler once told Henry "that son of yours is the only thing you have that I envy".
