Keith,

Mind you, I only worked on content for the 55-56 and the 57-58 pages; BigKev did 51-54, and started working back through the years.

I don't recall finding any errors being a matter of percentage as much as they were typographical in nature - transposition of characters. I suspect the genealogy of published figures can be traced back to the 56executive's document that or another copy of it. Where there is one...

Bigger problem I found was misintrepretation of some model numbers - namely some of the Packardbakers. Though WRONG in several published references, they are correct here at P'Info - thanks to the Studebaker parts book.

Perhaps things fell through the cracks in trying to meet some sort of deadline for these third-party publications, but once it goes to press, that's it - unless there is a subsequent, revised edition.

One BIG benefit of online publication is ability to make corrections in relatively short order.

When doing the 54 and prior years I found lots of issues where both online and published resources conflicted with one another. Weights and prices were the most common to not agree with one another. I have even seen Packard documentation that had several different weights listed for the same model. I guess it depends who weighted it that day with what accessories installed.

Yes. But again one has to look at the percentage of variations. If the variations are all within 5% of each other then i would consider all them accurate statistics. Especialy when dealing with populations of at least 30 units or more.

Corporate world deals in percentages. There is no way to account every nut, bolt cotter pin nor even weights and total units built to a 0% level of error. No more than we can account for every gallon of water we use in our houshold on a monthly or even daily basis. A small percentage of error is real world fact of life on large volumn.
