I am going to send my cam off to Isky for a regrind and been looking around for new lifters.

Has anyone used the ones from Egge?
http://www.egge.com/kits?make=PACKARD
They are $115.68 for the set so $7.23 a pop.

I would like something that is going to hold up. I havent had any my self but I hear there are a lot of crapy lifters on the market these days.

Also I have seen that the Melling and Seled power 879 lifters work in that block. had anyone ran these?

I'm using the 879 lifters now for over 6 years and about 20K miles.

I bought the 879's ata discount aut0 chain, either advance or autozone autoparts store. About $4.00 each.

WHY are u regrinding the cam????? Is it bad???? If not u mite want to leave it alone unless u get adjustable pushrods. A regrind usualy involves INcreasing the distance from bottom of lifter to rocker distance. This MITE (tho not necessarily) mean that u will need longer pushrods. SEE THE Packard service manual for specs related to lifter seat compression variances.

The lifters are worn so those need replaced and I was wanting to get as much out of the cam with keeping "stock" parts.

Try Jack Vines, he was selling OEM lifters a year or so ago. You'll find him here on PI.

I'll do that as well, I just ordered the olds oil pump adapter from him. Looking forward to getting this motor buttoned up.

Isky used to sell adjutable pushrods for Packard, but I don't know if they still do. Anyway, you can get pushrods made in virtually any length, if necessary. If you go with adjustable pushrods, then you can also go with mechanical lifters and grind for even better performance.

As far as cam grind is concerned, the original stock grinds are very mild as smooth idle and good low end torque were the criteria. If you want something a "little hotter", then I'm sure Isky can fix you up, but do NOT go overboard! Milder is always better with a 4Klb Packard/Clipper with stock converter and gears!

So DONT order them from JEGS. I was looking on line for lifters and saw that JEGS had jb-879 listed for $41.99($2.62 each). Thinking this was a great deal I call them and ask to make sure that's for a set, the guy said yes so I proceeded to order them. Got the package yesterday and there was 1 lifter in the box. Called Jegs and they were little to no help on the issue. I know lifters can be sold one at a time but that would be $671.84 a set. HIPO roller lifters are not even that much. I will be returning this and never ordering from jegs again. Thought I would save $10-$20 by ordering online. Well off to Checker it is.

I bought my Sealed Power 879s from NAPA; it was a few years back and they were around $5 each, +/-.

Just as a matter of good practice, I've always heard that it's a bad practice to install new lifters on a used camshaft and that the cam should at the very least be removed, inspected and polished. Comments?
