Straight 8 Transmission Adapters

I was at a local car show last weekend and ran into Bob Bendtsen. He owns the shop making the Chevrolet trans adapters for the Packard Straight 8 motors. According to Bob this will mate your motor with just about any Chevrolet V8 transmission.

He had one on display, so I snapped a few photos with the cell phone.

Please don't ask me any questions about it, because I'd be useless.

Better to contact Bob directly.

I just inquired about these the other day. They cost $895.00.

Looks very interesting and a relatively easy conversion. Does anyone hav a pic of one of these engine/adapter/GM trans installed into a Packard tunnel? Also I assume that the driveshaft needs to be moded for GM front - Packard rear. Peter Toet

That would be my question. For $900 what to you get? Just the adapter plate? Retrofitted linkage?

For $900 you get what's pictured here:
The kit consists of the following items:

1 inch thick aluminum adapter plate
New flexplate
Bolt set
Mini-high torque starter
Crank adapter

Apparently, there's also a manual trans version, or so there was when I spoke to them a year or so ago. From what I know of the '54 and back cars, I think this would be a rather tight fit to the firewall, and of course you're on your own for the linkage. To me, this is more for the guy who wants to put a Packard straight eight in a streetrod like a '32 Ford or such. I can almost guarantee you that will NOT fit in my '48, there's simply no room for a plate that large to fit.
