It looks awfully close--at least the operating end does. I don't have a Bendix unit off car easily available to photo, so these are best picts I can get right now of one in car. My hoses are about 1/2 inch away from anything. They are not original hoses but some I had made up locally. Hopefully someone who actually gets their car out of garage instead of surrounded by objects can take some better.

OK, with another set of pix to go by, my idea that the valve might be misassembled is all wet.

Yet, there's something about the angle of the control valve (WRT to its centerline) between the two cars. Maybe it's just the camera angle, but I'm wondering about the pitman arm, now.

Wondering--are your hoses original? Reason I ask is they appear longer than the ones on my car and the drawing you did of route on one of your pix is curved. Another pict of mine taken from between battery and engine more or less straight down shows the top hose with a fairly severe 90 deg bend at slave end starting right at brass cover and then to control valve with absolutely no extra, the other hose falling in neatly below it. Your top hose looks to be longer and pushing bottom out.

Thanks for the pics. Brian brought up a good point in that your valve and slave appear to be rotated clockwise more than mine are. Maybe mine need to be better normalized. HOWEVER, it appears that HH56's feed hoses from the pump are hanging very low near to the floor of the garage?????

HH56, what year and model is your Packard from which these pics were taken??? Does it have a AL starter or DR starter????? I'm wondering if the AL starter is shorter than the DR starter?????

As for the differences between the Auto Lite starter vs. the Delco Remy starter, I had both on my Patrician, the Auto Lite first, as it was the original Hudson starter. I never had any issues with either of them hitting anything but my head while I was installing/removing them. I currently have a Delco starter on the Pat now, completely rebuilt. There were 0 issues with p/s hoses, but I also have the Monroe system, too. A much better system, IMHO.

56 Caribbean with Delco starter. The hoses do hang down but not terribly-- maybe 6 or 7 inches off floor or an inch or 2 below frame. They probably could be pulled up a bit also. As mentioned, there was so much stuff around car, couldn't get a decent angle to shoot.
