My gas gage finally wet the bed and it is the sending unit that is at fault. I did some quick checking and it appears that the resistor should have a 0 to 90 ohm range. Can anybody verify this?

0-90 was a pretty standard GM number for a lot of years and since Packard used either AC as did Chevy in that year or Moto Meter Neco, that would be a pretty good guess. If no one comes with positive info, you could buy a few resistors or a linear taper potentiometer and substitute to see what the gauge looks like.
