1938 Eight pin stripe

Dear All,

The repaint of the 38 Eight club coupe is almost done. It is time to start thinking about pin stripe.

So, do any of you have photos of un-molested 38 Eight coupe (business or club) pin stripe detail? I know Dave C posted a photo of a wheel over on the PAC site.

Below is a crap-cam shot of the car when it arrived in TX.

Tom

Hey, Tom
Did you check the Photo Archive?
There is a black coupe, which clearly shows pinstripping. I'm sure it's just a double strip that leads all the way to the end of the belt line, then closes up at the end.

West,

Yes, I did look through the photo archive. There is not quite enough resolution to see what the lines look like. Are they super-thin like on the 34? Were the fender edges ever pinstriped?

Etc.

Thanks,

Tom

Thin to win, and no striping anywhere else. I think 1937 was the last year for any striping on the fenders, and that would have been on the Senior 8's and 12's.
the wheel pinstripping is much wider, but I think you have that detail.

West,

OK. Then was it doubled, like the 11th series car below, or a single line like on my 30?

EDIT: Dave, I hope it was OK to post this!

I'd be very, very surprised if it was a double-double. Of course, if that's the way the owner wanted it, I'm sure it would have been done for him, although I don't even think there's enough room on the belt line for two double stripes, is there?
Personally, i'd do a single-double.

Here's a photo showing the front. You can barely see the stripe, but if you squint...

West,

Thanks. Geez, that is a nice photo. So do you think the eight and super eight would have had the same pinstripe pattern?

It looks to be about 1/16" to 3/32" in width.

Again, thanks tons for the help.

Tom

Tom-
Email Gina nahc@detroitpubliclibrary.org
and for $20 or so you can have a very high res scan of your car from that archive photo. She's very helpful. It would be helpful for the pin stripe and perhaps other details, too.
