I just thought that I would alert everyone to a supply of new Ford fuel tank sending units that fit the 1957 and 1958 Ford passenger cars that are for sale on eBay. The units are supposed to fit '55 and '56 Packard fuel tanks and are available for $50.00 on a buy-it-now basis with $10.00 shipping. The seller is Dennis Carpenter Ford Restoration Parts.

Thanks for the heads up. It's a good price and they actually fit back to 51 for those that might need one.

I thought it was a good deal since I saw another one up for auction that was up to $100.00 already. I bought one and am thinking of picking up a spare.

Do these units work on the 55 Packards? That is, do they give correct readings?

The Packard senders from 1951-56 need to have a resistance of approx 10 ohms when full and 80 when empty. These Ford units will work and fit the hole with no modifications. There are also a couple of other places that sell similar senders--but this one has the best price.

The tanks are almost if not exactly the same depth but it would be a good idea to check the arm length and angle to verify when the swing is equal to the Packard sender, the ohm reading is appropriate.

The seller who is offering NOS 57-58 Ford fuel tank sending units has re-listed them. Price is still $50.00 each with $10.00 shipping. I don't know if the seller combines shipping for multiple sales, but I would assume so.

FORD CAR 1957-58 GAS TANK SENDING UNIT

I have been assured that these will work correctly in 1951 through 1956 Packards.

Will this sending unit work with both Pos and Neg ground? The reason I ask is, Dan Yocum told me once that if you convert from Pos ground to Negative ground, the fuel gage will not read correctly. I converted my 55 400 to Neg ground as soon as I got it, and when my gage reads empty I still have about 8 gallons in the tank. I don't know if it was accurate as a Pos ground car.
