Help with Year?

I found this in a recent box of goodies. I can't determine if it is a 37, 40, or 34. Each one I looked up appeared similar. Any help would be appreciated. After I know what it is i'll put it in the For Sale section.

Someone else may be able to determine the exact year based on its part number, but I suspect that it is pre-1940 based on the span between the wings. By 1940 they were pretty close together.

The general style with the mounting and 4 tail feathers is correct for 1932 thru 1937 senior cars, though I wonder if this one is authentic or an aftermarket piece, note the differences in the front legs and the spacing between the neck and the body (though it could have been bent), for example. Two good referenes would be the Walt Harris book on Packard radiator caps, mascots and trademarks, and Don Sommer's site on reproduction radiator cap mascots. See the link below for Don's image of the 32-37 senior mascot which was my reference for this comment.

If you look in the picture you provided at Don's site you'll notice a line at the "Knee" joint. This appears to be a joint. Notice in this additional picture that the legs on mine fall in that same location. It appears that this one is correct but minus the base that included the lower section of the legs. Gene

Yes, I see that now and could be you're correct. You might consider giving Don Sommer a call and perhaps sending him your pictures to verify. As far as I know he is THE expert in this area.

I don't know of any Cormorant reproductions that have the removable wings.

I'm going to opine that the rusty wing is a replacement - potmetal pits but doesn't typically surface rust

It is not rusty it appears to be a copper mix or other type of metal. It is a reddish color.
